Web Development Process and Client Relationship Critique

Web Development Process
I am very happy with how the website turned out. It has improved so much over the past month. It is very clean, simple, and elegant with cool colors  just how I wanted from the beginning. It is easy to understand, use, and navigate through. I especially like how the portfolio page is the home page, since that is what potential employers will want to see first. It is also nice having a slide show of some of my work on the portfolio page. The only thing I would want differently is for certain projects in the portfolio pages to be grouped together so when you click on them, you can page through all the images for that one project.

Client RelationshipThe client/designer relationship was very good. The client kept in contact and answered questions within a reasonable timeframe if not immediately. To improve the client/designer relationship, a timeframe could be set to work together and get instant feedback instead of being questioned or answered when one was not currently working on the project.

The theme chosen for Jade Renn’s website is set up to a grid, simple, and responsive. It brings you directly to her portfolio, which is very nice since that is the most important part of the website. The website is already very well designed, however I have some suggestions to take into consideration. The side navigations bar on the left of the page would look more structured if it was centered to the logo above it, but still kept left aligned. It also seems a bit uncomfortable for the portfolio link in that navigations bar to be the only one in that green color while the rest are gray and in the same size and weight. I understand that you want to show that the portfolio page is the most important page, but since the home page is the portfolio page the viewer already understands that it is important and does not need to be told again where to go. I also am wondering if the portfolio link in that navigations bar is necessary since the home page button, or logo, takes you there. I also think there should be some more of that green color in the design since it is a very nice and appealing color. Maybe the rollovers of the images can be that green with the opacity down just like it is now with the gray color. It would also be nicer to see the page filled with more work so it takes up the screen a bit more to make it visibly appealing. A resume page should also be added with the resume typed on it as well as a pdf download of the resume file. The comment sections on the pages should be discarded, which can be done by downloading the “Disable Comments” plugin.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

The theme chosen for Angela Bunnicant’s website is light, dainty, and utilizes space well. It does not seem too much as a theme, but more as an actual personal website. It is very appealing, however there are some changes I would recommend to improve it further. The header, which contains Angela’s logo, name, and navigation bar is not noticeable enough. It should be made darker so you do not have to roll over it in order to actually see and read it. The social networking buttons effect is very distracting and quite annoying. It moves from the top left of the screen to the bottom right every single time you go to a different page. It is unnecessary and takes away from the design and content of the website. The design of the social media buttons also do not seem to fit with the design of the website. I understand that you wanted a paper feel to them like the website already has, however the “popping out of the paper” effect seems a bit cheesy. I feel that the buttons should have the same light and dainty feel as the website itself. Also, it seems like there are too many widgets. When you click the arrow to show them, it is a bit overwhelming by how many there are. It can be limited to only a few important widgets. Some of the images could be better quality like the NJ PAC ad and the Ben & Jerry’s ad. It would also be nice to see an about page or some information about Angela in the page where the “Me” circle brings you to. I also do not really understand the landing page. I do not get the point of having those three works in a circle. I think it would be better if maybe you made the circles what you have in the navigations bar. For example, the five circles could be set up like “About, Resume, Contact, Portfolio, Welcome.”

Good luck and I hope this helps!
